Picture this: it’s the middle of February and you live somewhere in the northern hemisphere. You haven’t seen the sun in days, possibly weeks, and you find yourself feeling down more often, with no energy and less motivation. You’re not alone.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that is related to changes in seasons and can affect millions of people. Most people experience symptoms from late fall throughout the winter months and gradually start to feel better during the spring and summer months. Treatment for SAD can include psychotherapy, light therapy (exposure to a bright light to make up for the lack of natural sunlight), and medications/supplements such as Vitamin D. Always consult your doctor first to find the best treatment plan for your individual needs.
